Learning for life with Jesus

Year 1

Year 1

Miss Thompson

Welcome back Year 1 for our summer term!

I am so proud how the children have settled back into school life so quickly and maturely. They are growing into such mature, hard working and caring children and it's so lovely to be a part of their journey! As we enter our final term of the year, I can't wait to see how much the children will grow and progress now that we are all back together as a school family again.

Keep it up year 1!

Curriculum overview

Weekly timetable

What are we learning this term?

This term we are going to be exploring a range of books that will change in line with our topics! For the first two weeks we will be focusing on Handa's Surprise and Oliver's Vegetables as we explore fruit and veg in our Design and Technology topic. We will be creating a fruit based dish and a vegetable based dish over the next two weeks!

For the second two weeks, we will be focusing on materials in Science and therefore we will be looking at The Three Little Pigs. We will be exploring the materials in the book and using the content to conduct our very own experiment.

For the final two weeks, we will be looking at the series of Shark in the Park books. This will be in line with our Design and Technology topic which will encourage the children to design and make a piece of playground equipment that is right for them.

In Maths, the children will be continuing with addition and subtraction within 20. We will begin by focusing primarily on addition and then we will move onto subtraction in the later part of this block.

In Design and Technology, we will begin the term by looking at fruit and veg. We will be designing and creating both a fruit and veg dish by the end of the two weeks.

In REwe will be focusing on Islam. We will be exploring the question 'What do Muslims believe?'.
