Welcome

Learning for life with Jesus

Year 1

Year 1

Miss Thompson

What a fantastic start our new year 1 children have had!

Despite having been away for so long, they have settled beautifully into their new class and are keen, happy and working hard already. They have listened so carefully to the guidance on how to move safely around the school and within their classrooms and, although there are some big changes, they have adapted wonderfully showing real maturity. Their behaviour has been impeccable and parents should be feeling very proud.

You can also contact me through the class email: year1@st-thomas-kidsgrove.staffs.sch.uk

Keep it up year 1!

Curriculum overview

Weekly timetable

What are we learning this term?

To begin this term, we are going to be focusing on the theme of our five senses. We will be working scientifically to find out how we can explore the world around us using our five senses.

In English, we will be using our senses to understand and create poetry. We will be looking at a range of different pieces of poetry and will be working towards creating our own piece.

In Maths, the children will be beginning with Place Value to 10. This involves developing and deepening the children's understanding of number.

In Design and Technology, we will begin the term by looking at how we can design and make a piece of playground equipment. By looking at different materials and structures, children can explore which methods are best to create a stable and fun piece of equipment.

In REwe will be focusing on ChristainityWe will be exploring the question 'What is God like?'.

In computing, the children will be learning all about programming through the use of BeeBots.
