Welcome to our Reception page! Well we've settled into big school life quickly and easily. We're busy learning new rules and routines, getting to know our new teachers and friends whilst having a lovely, fun time.
This term we are going to focus on ourselves and what makes us incredible. We'll also start looking at phonics to help us begin to learn to read and write, and we'll look at how we sort and match in maths.
I know that we are going to have a wonderful time together, and as a bonus, we've got brilliant new equipment up the secret bank that we've started to explore.
Thanks as always for the support of our parents. Please don't hesitate to speak to me on the decking before or after school, if you have any questions or queries.

Reception Autumn Planning
What are we learning this term?
This term, we will be enjoying a wide range of fiction and non- fiction texts linked to our own experiences and to our Autumn term topics - What makes me incredible? and Why do people celebrate? We will enjoy listening to and discussing stories together; exploring pattern and rhyme within texts and then using these patterns in our own story retelling.
This term we will begin to use our Little Wandle phonics scheme to learn our phase 2 letter sounds. Then we will slowly start to blend sounds into simple words, so that we can read short words made up of known letter– sound correspondences. We will also learn a few common exception words matched to our phonic program. .
We will practise writing our names and use the phase 2 letters that we have learnt in phonics, in our handwriting. We will eventually start to write simple CVC words by blending letter sounds together.
Our maths units this term are;
Just like me, which looks at sorting, patterns and matching.
It's me, one, two, three, where we study the numbers 1, 2 and 3 in depth.
Light and dark, focusing on quantities up to 5, understanding the terms fewer and less and how to represent numbers in different ways.
The learning questions for our spring term are What makes me incredible? and Why do people celebrate?
For our RE we will be exploring the learning questions:
Why is the word God so important to Christians?
Why do people perform Nativity plays at Christmas?
PE takes place on a Monday and a Tuesday, so Reception children can come into school in their PE kits on those days. ASM will provide one session of Cool cats in the Monday PE lesson each week.
Each Friday, the children are encouraged to take part in Show and Tell, where they can bring in a small item to talk about or just talk about something that is of interest to them. This will help develop their communication and language skills, as they talk about their possessions or their experiences.
