Pupils begin to read with books that closely match the phonics that they know. They also take home library books that can be shared and enjoyed together. Once children are secure with their phase five phonics, they read book banded books from our scheme. We have worked hard to ensure that there is a wide range or texts available in each band to suit the interests of the pupils. The reading scheme progresses through these book bands:

Once children are secure in time, they move on to ‘free readers’ which are available in the classes. Class teacher will direct children on suitable texts to read within each Year group. Children can also read free e-books and audio books by using the Sora app.
